| Subject: What Is A Poker Freeroll Tournament? 28/05/09, 03:16 pm | |
| A Poker Freeroll tournament is a tournament organized by a pokerroom that does not require a buy/in or tournament fee. A free tournament in other words.
There is actual prize money which is provided by the pokerroom or a sponsor. The pot will be divided in a standard manner and will remain the same size, independent of the number of participant. Because a freeroll tournament does not allow add-ons or rebuys, that will also not affect the size of the payout.
Generally everyone can join a freeroll, also the play-money players. Some pokerrooms do have some requirements before you can join a freeroll. For example a certain minimum of raked hands played or a certain number of frequent player points. Often the freeroll tournaments are limited to beginning/new players at the pokerroom. So do pay attention to the requirements for each freeroll. These requirements are also listed in the FREEROLL-TRACKER overview.
Playing freerolls is an excellent way to improve your poker skill. With play-money you don't have the thrill of a real money prize. And freerolls are risk-free, because you don't have to spend any money of your own to participate.
Because there usually is a lot of interest in freerolls, there often are restrictions to the number of players for each freeroll. You can safely assume that a large prize will allow a large number of players. But in any case, be on time to register for each tournament. Typically, registration starts one hour before the particular freeroll is scheduled to start. So keep your eye on the Poker Freerollsmonitor. |
